Spreadsheets at HICSS-42

Activities

Spreadsheets at HICSS is a cluster of activities for spreadsheet researchers at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences in January 2009.

Workshop

On January, 5, the first day of the conference, there will be an all-day workshop for spreadsheet researchers.

In the morning session, researchers from computer science, modeling, information systems, and software engineering will discuss key research trends in the field. The goal is to create a discussion of how insights in each area can be used to energize thinking in other areas. The morning session will involve position paper presentations.

In the afternoon, the researchers will discuss how they can collaborate with each other and advance the spreadsheet field. In the best case, a joint field-wide project will be launched.

Minitrack

Later in the conference, there will be a minitrack that will allow researchers to present refereed papers of interest to spreadsheet researchers. The minitrack papers are now available for viewing. Click on the button, Minitrack Papers, on the left side of this pages.

Informal Presentations

In addition to the formal presentations, there will be an opportunity to present papers that are not quite mature enough or broad enough in scope for formal presentation.

Interactive Opportunities

HICSS is a great conference for interactions. There is no recruiting, and there are no vendor presentations. It is designed for fire-breathing researchers. At the end of each day, there is a pupu reception, and there is a long lunch period. There will be other opportunities for interaction between small groups of spreadsheet researchers, and we plan to have other social opportunities, including dinners.
